Clinical Studies on Purpuras

Abstract
Clinical and hematological examinations were performed on patiens manifesting various types of cutaneous hemorrhagic tendencies treated at the Department of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine of Catholic Medical Center over the period January 1962 through July 1964.
Materials and Methods
Subjects consisted of fifty-nine cases and besides the routine physical and laboratore examinations the following hematological tests were performed on each case in order to classify them from etiological point of view: bone marrow examination, bleeding time, coagulation time, recalcification clotting time, platelet count, Rumpel-Leede¢¥s test, plasma fibrinogen, prothrombin time, Factor¥´ and Factor¥¶-complex determinations, throboplastin, thromboplastin generation test and fibrinolytic activity.
Results
1. Majority of patients were under age of 39 and highest incidence was to be seen in one to nineteen years of age group(44.0%) and no significant sex predominance was to be noted.
2. Rashes were predominantly found in the lower extremities and gastrointestinal bleeding, epistaxis, hematuria and vaginal bleeding were the main non-cutaneous hemorrhagic phenomena accompanying purpura.
3. Following were the main disease entities underlying as the cause for the bleeding tendencies in these patients.
Anaphylactois purpuras.................................21 cases(35.6%)
Leukemias..............................................11 cases(18.6%)
Thrombocytopenic states(including 3 cases of I.T.P.)....6 cases(10.2%)
Hemophilias(A-four cases and B-one case)................5 cases (8.5%)
Korean epidemic hemorrhagic fever.......................4 cases (6.7%)
Aplastic anemia.........................................3 cases (5.1%)
Fibrinolytic purpura....................................3 cases (5.1%)
Miscellaneous conditions(Aspidium poisoning etc.).......6 cases(10.2%)
